College Campuses Using 2-way Radios for Security

College Campuses are increasingly purchasing two-way radios for campus security, adding a measure of security that emergency call boxes cannot offer. While call boxes are limited by location, Motorola or Vertex Standard two-way radios can be used by security teams to communicate with police for faster, immediate responses. They are much more reliable and offer more accessibility for students.

One college campus who has extended its use of two-way radios is the University of Toledo. The University of Toledo has enhanced its safety and security services to include security for its Health Science Campus. They have implemented and extended their Night Watch escort service across campus, offering two-person teams of escorts equipped with two-way radios that are linked to a police dispatcher. These escorts accompany students safely to any parking lot or campus building. Many students who use the service stay at the library late at night and need a ride back to their residence hall. Two-way radios can alleviate any hindrances to communication including lack of cell phone reception, a frequent issue on college campuses.

The RDU2020 is a popular Motorola 2-way radio that is used for security on college campuses of all sizes. The Motorola RDU2020 can be programmed to work on UHF Frequencies and can be made compatible with your existing equipment.

Pair the Motorola RDU2020 with a Motorola RPU2160 repeater to extend your coverage up to 50%. The Motorola RPU2160 overrides dead spots in the coverage area to provide consistent and reliable communications. It can also be installed outdoors. The Motorola RDU4100, Motorola RDU4160D, Motorola CLP1010, and the Motorola CLP1040 can be paired with the Motorola RPU2160 repeater.

3 Reasons why 2-way Radios are Becoming Popular among Dentists

Motorola 2-way radios are becoming a popular business tool for dentists. If you are a dentist or if you are employed by a dentist’s office, it is a good idea to look into 2-way radios as an investment for your office. If you don’t know why, here are 3 good reasons:

  1. Operations run much more smoothly with instant communication. 2-way radios are proven to increase turnaround and profitability by allowing dentists to easily manage their time. Efficiency and communication cannot be undervalued in any business, particularly in places where it is important to move customers in and out in a timely fashion while giving them the best service possible.
  2. Time is money. 2-way radios reduce the time spent on mundane tasks such as walking back and forth across the office to communicate. They reduce downtime and generally improve communication between office staff, hygienists and dental assistants. Patients are also happier because they spend less time in the waiting room.
  3. They are unobtrusive and comfortable to wear. Small yet durable, these 2-way radios are discreet in the way they increase organization without becoming distracting. Headsets are the perfect accessory to accommodate your radios in this.

A typical practice will purchase 6 Motorola 2-way radios, 6 headsets and a multi-unit charging station.  The CLS1110 Interoffice Communication System is widely used by dental practices and includes 6 Motorola 2-way radios, 6 headsets, a multi-unit charging station, 6 individual charging stations and 6 swivel belt holsters.  Multi-channel radios are particularly helpful when multiple dentists work in the same facility.

www.2wayradiodirect.com has provided thousands of Motorola 2-way radios to dental practitioners. We understand the needs of your business and are happy to share others’ successful 2-way radio programs with you. Nokia Siemens Networks to acquire certain wireless network infrastructure assets of Motorola

Nokia Siemens Networks recently announced its agreement with Motorola, Inc to acquire the majority of Motorola’s wireless network infrastructure assets for $1.2 billion. NSN is a dual business enterprise between leading global enabler of telecommunications services Nokia and German industrial group Siemens. The transaction should be completed by the end of the year following regulatory approval.

The deal is expected to connect Nokia Siemens Networks with more than 50 operators and strengthen its position with China Mobile, Clearwire, KDDI, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. The deal would make it the number one foreign wireless seller in Japan and strengthen its position as the number two telecom infrastructure producer in the world. NSN and Motorola are also considering a global affiliation in the public safety arena that would combine Motorola’s leadership in providing solutions to public safety organizations with NSN’s commercial LTE solutions.

Motorola likewise prepares to undergo the separation into two independently traded businesses—the Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Networks Businesses and the Mobile Devices and Home businesses. Until the changeover, Motorola’s Networks business will continue to operate as usual. Around 7,500 Motorola Networks employees are expected to transfer to NSN at the end of the year. These include personnel at research and development sites in the US, China and India. Among the wireless networks’ businesses, Motorola will retain the iDEN business, which will be added to Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility Solutions. Upon completion of the transitions, Motorola will be one fortified company providing next-generation communications for its government, public safety and enterprise customers.

Co-CEO of Motorola Greg Brown comments on the acquisition: “Motorola is very proud of the operational and financial performance of our Networks business and its employees, who will now become a valuable addition to Nokia Siemens Networks. We are excited to have reached this agreement to combine our Networks team with such an industry leader. This is great news for our customers, our investors and our people and will allow us to sharpen our strategic focus on providing mission and business critical solutions for our government, public safety, and enterprise customers.”

New Bill Allows Guns in Churches

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana has recently signed House Bill 1272 by Rep. Henry Burns to allow the use of handguns in church as a security measure.  Authorized persons are now allowed to carry concealed weapons into houses of worship after passing training and background checks.

The bill requires that pastors or leaders of the religious institutions must announce that there will be armed members of the church security force on the property.  In addition to allowing the use of handguns among select members of the congregation, the bill allows the hire of off-duty police or security guards during services.

This bill has brought to attention the need for security measures in houses of worship. Opponents argue that churches should remain free of guns and violence and should focus on worship. However, churches that have fallen victim to violence understand that it is difficult to focus on worship without security precautions. Churches should be free of violence, but no one can determine the actions of other people. They can, however, act preparedly when violent situations arise.

2wayradiodirect promotes security training and preparation for any business or meeting place that could require emergency communication, and churches are no exception.  Before guns, 2-way radios are the first step you should take to protect your congregation. 2-way radios provide indispensable emergency communication. We would not recommend the use of guns in your church without 2-way radios; radios ease and relieve panic and confusion, especially in the case that there are guns firing off in your sanctuary.

How to Fund 2-Way Radios for Your Schools

Budget cuts and upcoming changes in FCC mandates for 2-way radio frequencies are requiring schools to be resourceful in order to fund their need for 2-way radios. The students at Stockton Elementary School in Jacksonville recently raised more than $20,000 from a fundraising project.

Stockton Elementary School Principal Lacy Healy and Assistant Principal Jennifer Collins recently motivated their students to action by making a fundraising deal. If their students raised $20,000 in cookie dough sales, Healy and Collins agreed to camp on the school’s roof for 24 hours. The students surpassed the goal by raising $21,500; in return, the administrators followed through by pitching a tent on the roof for a day. Half of the funds raised will be used directly for school improvements.

Many schools cutting programs, staff and supplies are easing the tension of decreasing resources with the efficiency of 2-way radios. With less staff at your school, 2-way radios allow you to communicate easily and to manage your students without enduring added stress.

Take the initiative to suggest introducing a new fundraising project to the teachers and parents at your school with specified needs and goals to obtain. If your school does not currently use 2-way radios, include them in the budget as an enhancement to your communication and security team. Add an inexpensive, compelling incentive for the kids to enjoy and set a quick cut-off date to spur them to action.

Another great result of fundraising is the effect it has on students. They will have the opportunity to understand responsibility, feel a sense of community and a sense of accomplishment as they reap the rewards and benefits of their hard work. They may also, like the students at Stockton Elementary School, surpass the goal and provide you with extra funds.

6 Benefits of Motorola Business 2-Way Radios v. Consumer 2-Way Radios

1. VHF and UHF 2-way radio bands. The VHF and UHF bands each have a series of frequencies that are reserved exclusively to businesses. These frequencies are much less crowded.

2. Power. Motorola business 2-way radios have more wattage and thus are more reliable. FRS radios have a .5 watt limit on transmission power whereas UHF radios (RDU4100, RDU4160D) have up to 4 watts of power and VHF radios (RDV5100) have up to 5 watts of power. This makes an incredible difference for your range of use.

3. Cheaper Licensing Long-term. GMRS radios require licenses which are only issued to individuals; these licenses are $80 and must be purchased and renewed every 5 years by every employee who uses them. Business band licenses cost only $105.

4. Durability. Motorola business 2-way radios are designed for continuous daily use over long periods of time. They meet IP-55 and MIL-SPEC Specifications for shock, vibration, water, dust and temperature extremes.

5. Longer Battery Life. Motorola business 2-way radios have long-lasting batteries to accommodate extended periods of work. The batteries for business 2-way radios are rechargeable and can last up to 14.5 hours (DTR410).

6. Accessories. Headsets, earpieces and multi-unit chargers increase the convenience of your 2-way radios and are much more available for business radios. You will have many more options with Motorola business 2-way radio accessories, and the quality will be exceedingly greater.

Man Shot to Death during Robbery Attempt at Dollar General

Yesterday afternoon, a man shot a customer in an attempt to rob the Augusta Road Dollar General in Greenville, S.C. The victim, 26-year-old Josh Bryant, was visiting the store with his mother when he got into a confrontation with the suspect. Bryant was shot and killed on the spot. The suspect ran and was possibly picked up by a car; more than thirty deputies, K-9 units and a helicopter scoured the area with no success. Three employees and 7-8 shoppers were in the store at the time of the shooting.

The crime against this small retailer is a tragic reminder to always be ready and have a staff fully trained for emergencies. Two-way radios are just as useful for the safety of small retailers as they are for larger retailers. A smaller staff necessitates two-way radios as a safety and business tool because it requires management to make the most of each employee in everything from customer service to emergencies.

Does your small retail store have safety measures in place? Consider the usefulness of the Motorola CLS1110. The CLS1110 is the most popular business two-way radio for retail stores in the U.S. It is compact and dependable in a crisis and helps management instantly communicate with employees to coordinate emergency responses.

Two-way radios will give your employees and customers a sense of security. When faced with a crisis situation, it will reduce stress for your employees and allow them to focus on taking action. This will also regularly increase productivity at your store.

Also:

-For added comfort and convenience, pair your CLS1110 with a headset.

-Purchase your two-way radios before June 30 to be eligible for the Motorola rebate.

7 Ways to Use 2-Way Radios at Church

1. Parking. 2-way radios are an excellent way to coordinate guests arriving at your church. Have someone direct cars coming in to maximize appropriate spaces for parking and to reduce the amount of time wasted in the parking lot. Who doesn’t need to get into church faster, right?! This also eases the stress of latecomers and visitors who do not know where they are going. Communicate via 2-way radio to have someone meet them. This is also helpful for handicapped and elderly members and visitors who need extra assistance.

2. Security. Sinning doesn’t stop when you get to church. Unfortunately, places of worship are common grounds for violence and crime. Shootings, assault, kidnappings and even arson are all in the headlines for crime against churches. Take preventative measures to protect your congregation. 2-way radios open the lines of communication for quick and coordinated response.

3. Vacation Bible School. VBS can be a hectic time for parents and church staff. 2-way radios bring an immediate sense of organization to frenzied children running tirelessly in circles around your church while singing and doing crafts. Focus your efforts; plan rotations and stay in touch with the other volunteers for smooth transitions between activities.

4. Sound Teams. No more screaming across the church to get the sound settings right. Use 2-way radios to discuss the fine tuning of your speakers, microphones and order of worship.

5. Seating Guests. Late for church again? Can’t find your wife? No more seats left? Ask your ushers to use 2-way radios to save you the embarrassment of walking aimlessly through the congregation looking for a place to sit.

6. Finding lost children. Children and their parents often have a greater sense of safety and comfort at church, and as a result, they are often separated from one another. 2-way radios are perfect to assist you in finding your children, whether they are in the nursery, in Sunday school classrooms or playing with friends.

7. Chatting with the pastor. During the service, it may be helpful for you to share important bits of information with the pastor, including new announcements or prayer requests, changes in the order or service or emergencies that need to be addressed immediately. Stay connected with the pastor via 2-way radios to avoid causing a commotion when things come up mid-service.

That is so true. So, which 2-way radio should my church use?

I would like to recommend the new Motorola CLP1040. This radio is discreet and compact, smaller than a business card. It has an earpiece with swivel capabilities and an adjustable cord for a sleek and comfortable fit. The battery lasts an outstanding 12-14 hours and can recharge in less than 3.
